Pili-Pili (African Birdseye), Hot Pepper, Capsicum Annuum


Capsicum frutescens - relative of the tabasco chile.
Range in height from 40 cm to 120 cm, growing habit usually bushy.
Fruits lenght 2-3 cm.
Immature pod color green, mature bright red.
Hot scale 7 (out of 10) - up to 175,000 Scoville Heat Units.

Hi Joanna
I was looking at your photos and I must comment that this photo of Piri-piri (african bird's eye - capsicum frutescens)that you posted doesn't seem right to me. Though you say it is a capsicum annuum... I really don't understand quite well...

I'm portuguese and our national pepper is the piri-piri, the c. frutescens you're referring... or so I think...
The true piri-piri (african birdseye) is a C. frutescens, not an Annuum and looks like this :
